Warning: I don't care to offend you.
I use words like sinner, sin, and wrong.
And I talk about it.
Now let me tell you why...
Several years ago, I lived far, far from God. I got saved when I was 8 years old but if you had of met me in my 20's, you wouldn't know it.
I lived just like the world. Actually, there's a whole lot of sinners that are better people than this saved person was at that point in my life.
But good people die and go to Hell every day.
And that is why I don't care if I offend you by sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To many, the Gospel is offensive because it exposes our sin natures and honey I'm here to tell you - we all have one.
Aside from Christ Jesus Himself, there has never been a perfect person to walk this earth.
"For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" ~ Romans 3:23
Our sins are what kept Jesus on the cross. Our sins are why He went to the cross in the first place.
We cannot earn our way into Heaven. It really can't be done. I don't care how many doors you hold, how many homeless you feed, how many kids you foster, how many elderly you visit. You can be in the church house every time the doors are open...
None of that can save us from an eternity in Hell.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not of your own doing; it is the Gift of God. Not of works so that no one can boast." ~ Ephesians 2: 8-9
Salvation is an outrageously expensive gift given to us by God and bought and paid for by Christ Jesus on the cross. But here the thing about it...it's a gift that has to be opened. You can't just hold the box.
It's our job as Christians to tell every man, woman, boy, and girl about the gospel of Jesus Christ. And like I said before, the gospel offends a whole lot of people because they don't want to hear that they're a sinner.
"But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please men, but to please God who tests our hearts. For we never came with words of flattery, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed - God is witness." ~ 1 Thessalonians 2:4-5
But I will keep on sharing the gospel regardless of who it offends because there's this one time that I didn't and it will haunt me the rest of my life.
Like I said before, I spent most of my 20's as a party girl. I didn't go to church regularly and when I did, I couldn't wait for it to be over. That's a hard truth to tell.
There was this guy who had told me he wanted to go to church but I never took him. This guy wasn't raised in church and had an interest in the gospel but didn't know the Lord. I knew this. And in my head I knew I needed to take him to church but I was selfish and busy and I had no time for God or the Great Commission then.
Some part of me thought I would eventually get around to it but then we lost touch with each other and time happened.
And then I got the news that he died of a drug overdose.
But no matter how many people I lead to Christ now, this guy's blood is on my hands. I was spoon fed an opportunity and I selfishly didn't take it.
That is my biggest regret. He died lost. I can't take that back. I can't go back in time and take him to church and talk to him about the Lord.
It's a mistake I'm not willing to make again.
Some part of me hopes that in those last moments of his life, he cried out to Jesus to save him but I'm not counting on it.
I will share the gospel of Jesus Christ every time I'm given the opportunity now.
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." ~ Romans 1:16
I don't care who I offend by speaking truth. I will speak it. I can't stand the thoughts of another person going to Hell because I didn't speak up.
So I'll end with this letter:
Dear Christian Brother or Sister,
Please, please, please don't fear offending someone with the gospel because you might be the only chance they have to hear it. You may be the only person they would receive it from. Don't be ashamed of the gospel because it is the means of salvation. Stay in prayer about it. Let the Holy Spirit lead you. The Lord told us to be fishers of men but let the Holy Spirit give you the bait. And please don't pass up the opportunity when they bite. Don't throw them back for the bigger fish of the world. I promise you that you won't be able to stand yourself if they die lost and you had the chance to lead them to Christ. It will haunt your conscience for the rest of your life.
